Following a Freedom of Information Act request, it has been revealed that more than 90 percent of schools in the borough of Stockport have Asbestos in their buildings. This Legal Request article looks at typical local authority and its problems with asbestos in its public buildings.
Stockport and Bury in north Manchester, have the two highest concentrations of schools containing Asbestos in Greater Manchester. Out of 135 schools in Stockport, 123 have the potentially lethal substance present.
The local authority is aware of the problem with the asbestos in its public buildings and fully intends to conform with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006. It is a time bomb waiting to go off as buildings become dilapidated and come into disrepair. It is at this stage that children and thrill seekers open themselves to contamination from asbestos if they venture into derelict buildings.
The situation with Stockport's public buildings will be dealt with by professional trades, who are expert at the removal and disposal of Asbestos. However the point of concern at Legal Request is the fledgling tradesmen that are entering into the workplace. Colleges and training establishments should have asbestos awareness as a part of the curriculum to ensure that asbestos contamination is kept to a minimum by educating the trades most likely to be exposed.
If you wish to discuss the subject of asbestos, asbestosis, or indeed asbestos related illnesses, then please do not hesitate to call our professional team on 0800 990 3500.
I was really pleased with the help and advice I received from Legal request and felt comfortable talking to the caller.
