Stockport and Bury in north Manchester, have the two highest concentrations of schools containing Asbestos in Greater Manchester. Out of 135 schools in Stockport, 123 have the potentially lethal substance present.
The local authority is aware of the problem with the asbestos in its public buildings and fully intends to conform with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006. It is a time bomb waiting to go off as buildings become dilapidated and come into disrepair.
