Ear Surgery (Otoplasty) Compensation Claims

Our ears are one of the most important parts of our body. They allow us to hear everything around us, talk and listen to what people have to say in addition to listening to music and various other forms of entertainment. They are also a prominent physical feature of our face and for some people this is a great area of dissatisfaction.

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that is used to change the shape and style of our ears in the same way that we may have any other form of plastic surgery. Each year thousands of people undergo this type of surgery for two main reasons. One – aesthetic reasons, they are unhappy with the way that their ears look and they want it to change. Two – they struggle with hearing and therefore need ear surgery to help them to hear clearer and more concisely.

Regardless of the reasons for your otoplasty, as with any type of surgery there are dangers and risks involved and it’s important that you are made fully aware of these before undertaking surgery. If you feel that you haven’t been made aware of the risks or that your surgeon has been negligent towards you then you could be eligible to make a compensation claim.

What is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty refers to the procedure of surgically correcting or changing the shape of any part of the ear to benefit the patient. There are two main reasons for otoplasty:

  • Aesthetic – Many people opt to have this type of surgery because they dislike the way that their ears look. In many cases their ears may stick out on the side of their head and they may have to be pinned back, this is a common type of aesthetic otoplasty procedure
  • Medical – Otoplasty can include the reconstruction of a damaged ear or fixing a defective ear or part of an ear which may be causing the patient difficulty hearing.

What injuries can I receive?

If your surgeon is negligent towards you during your otoplasty procedure then you could be seriously injured as a result, and when something as important as your hearing is involved it can have quite substantial consequences on your quality of life.

As with any type of surgery there is always a risk of infection and although many minor infections can be treated with antibiotics, if the area is left untreated or the infection is more severe then further surgery may be required, which could potentially threaten your ability to hear properly.

Blood clots are another common risk associated with ear surgery and these can be severe if left untreated as they can grow and spread to surrounding areas – becoming dangerously close to the brain.

What should I do next?

If you have suffered from medical negligence when it comes to a surgical procedure such as Otoplasty then you could be eligible to make a compensation claim. I used the services of Legal request for a claim after a recent road traffic accident. Their representative was very helpful and informative, ensuring the process was as smooth as possible and stress free. The fact that they offered to come to my place of work for me to fill the forms in, saved me a lot of time and hassle. Above all legal request made a difficult situation very easy, I would certainly recommend their service to anyone who needs it.
