Soft Tissue Injury Compensation
Claims for this type of injury can fetch up to £95,000
Soft tissue injuries are one of the most common injuries suffered. They are the result of damage to structures such as muscles and ligaments and are often caused by a sudden movement, which causes the ligaments to stretch beyond their normal range of movement.
Although the majority of soft tissue injuries occur as the result of a blameless accident, some however are preventable and therefore claimable against. Read on to find out more about whether you can make a soft tissue injury compensation claim.
What types of injuries are categorised as soft issue injuries?
The term 'soft tissue injury' can be used to describe a number of different types of muscle injuries. It includes:
- Sprain injuries - most commonly occur in the leg, knee and ankle
- Cramp injuries - can be triggered by dehydration, low potassium or low sodium levels
- Overuse injuries - more common with athletes who do too much intense training
- Whiplash - also categorised as a soft tissue injury. Click here view our factsheet on Whiplash
What is the best treatment for a soft tissue injury?
If you have suffered a soft tissue injury then the best treatment is usually rest. It also helps to apply ice (for no more than ten minutes at a time) in the immediate aftermath in order to reduce the swelling and keep the limb elevated.
If I have suffered a soft tissue injury, how do I know whether I can claim compensation?
As with any personal injury compensation claim, it is essential that blame and/or negligence can be proved in a court of law. Blame can often be attributed if you have suffered your injury as a result of:
- Reckless or violent conduct
- Defects in playing surfaces
- Defective equipment
- Lack of proper supervision
- Injuries sustained during school sporting activities
What else should I do if I suffer an injury that I think may be someone else's fault?
In order to make a successful compensation claim it is important you document your injury as much as possible. Take photographs of any physical symptoms such as swelling or bruising. You should also obtain an independent medical certificate from your doctor and where possible, take contact details of any witnesses present.
My injury, although caused by someone else, seems fairly minor - why do I need a lawyer?

I used the services of Legal request for a claim after a recent road traffic accident. Their representative was very helpful and informative, ensuring the process was as smooth as possible and stress free. The fact that they offered to come to my place of work for me to fill the forms in, saved me a lot of time and hassle.
Above all legal request made a difficult situation very easy, I would certainly recommend their service to anyone who needs it.
