Merseyside Factory claims a life

Kay is the third death at the plant in the last twelve months with two men dying after being dragged through machinery last December. This is in addition to several incidents that have previously resulted in injuries including a worker being crushed while unblocking a conveyor belt and another worker being badly injured after being reversed over by a forklift truck. 

 

This is not the first time the plant has come under the microscope as according to figures published by the HSE there have been 22 reports of major accidents at the site in the last decade. The plant was ordered to cease working no less than eight times between 2001 and 2003 due to safety concerns raised by the HSE.

 

The company has also received a number of fines following a series of chemical leaks and fires, in addition to fines issued by the Environment Agency for pollution incidents that have affected local waterways.
